About Taku Kumabe
Taku Kumabe as a prominent Toronto-based photographer and visual storyteller who specializes in capturing sunrise and sunset in the city and travel photography from international locations including Japan and the arctic regions of North America.
He is best known for his stunning landscapes, nature and wildlife photos and mastery of difficult lighting conditions—particularly during the “blue hour” and sunrise. He hosts a few annual popular sunrise meetups along the Toronto waterfront.
We appreciate Taku’s contributions to the GTA photo community. Taku has been a judge for our annual Tdot Shots photo contest and contributed to our blog and social pages.
2026 CN Tower Sunrise Meetup
Taku Kumabe is hosting the fourth annual CN Tower Sunrise Meetup on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Limited to 50 participants, this event offers rare, private access to the main observatory deck before the general public arrives. For $79 plus HST, guests enjoy 360-degree views of Toronto at dawn, complete with coffee, pastries, and a unique tripod allowance.
It is recommended to arrive when ticket holders get access at 6:00 AM to catch the twilight glow before the 6:55 AM sunrise. Taku notes he encourages everyone to be up by 6:30am at the latest.
