We are delighted to share our feature interview with Greater Toronto Area photographer Manoj Klohar with you. A golden city scape emerges in these images, speckled with voluminous light and contrasting dark tones. Tdot Shots Five Questions Interview

Interview took place via email in June 2025

Can you please introduce yourself?

Hello, I’m Manoj Lohar. I’m a Street and Portrait Photographer from Toronto. I have been shooting on the phone since I was 14yo, and got my first camera 3 years ago. I initially started with taking portraits of my friends but fell in love with Street Photography after immigrating to Toronto.

What is your artistic approach or idea about your photographic process?

I just love romanticizing life in general, like you might see someone just crossing the street with an umbrella, walking to work. But i see a whole movie inside my head when i look at people, thinking what would their life be if it was a Netflix series. i think we all have a story worth telling, experiences worth sharing.

How did you come up with the colour palette? There are some lovely browns and golds plus blues. It looks a bit like teal and orange cinematic style.

My Color palette is heavily Inspired my Sam Kolder and Moumarion. Sam’s Colors and Moumarian’s Mood. I change my grade quite often to as i come up with new grade after every Shoot.

What is the role of the camera equipment you use? Do you have lenses or filters or settings you prefer? How do they affect your photography?

  • i use Sony A73, i chose Sony because of it’s Low light capabilities. 80% of my shots are from Sigma 24-70 F2.8. It is the most versatile lens ever.
i shoot on HLG3 profile a lot because it conserves the details better, it adds more steps during post processing but it is worth it once you’re used to it.

Why did you choose to focus on street photography?

I love to Travel and explore new places, Street photography is perfect crossover of Travel and Portrait so it helps me capture moments during my Travel and it also helps me explore new spots and Scout locations that i can use for my Portrait session later. I also think street photography has helps me practice new grades and I’ve learned to adapt to any lighting condition.
