Tdot Shots Five Questions Interview
Who are you?
Christopher Kotsopoulos. I’ve gone by just “Kotsy” since high school in most social situations and lean into it heavily because Christopher is such a popular name.
How did you get into photography?
I found UrbanToronto while looking up a couple of buildings (Aura, Ryerson SLC) that were under construction close to me when I moved downtown and was compelled to contribute photo updates on the forum. With a trip planned to NYC, I bought myself a DSLR and took a couple classes at Henry’s to get the basics down and haven’t looked back. Since then I’ve picked up almost everything I know from YouTube and get inspiration from other photographers on Instagram.
What do you like to shoot and where?
Skyscrapers and transit. I’ve always been a big nerd when it comes to subways for transit photography, but find only shoot streetcars these days because the city makes for a much nicer backdrop. There’s also way more locations and possibilities when you’re shooting outside instead of subway stations. Having said that, when I travel to cities like NYC or London, a big part of my shots are underground.
What gear do you use?
In the air – DJI Mini 4 these days. On the ground – Nikon Z8 with a 24-70 and sometimes a 70-200. I used to shoot a lot with a 15-30 but it rarely comes out these days.
Who are your favourite photographers?
Dustin William, Normyvision, Luke Agbaimoni aka tubemapper, Kurt Wang, Mike Simpson, Jonathan Gazze, Andrew ‘Belfast’ McLaughlin, Jack Landau, Vik Pahwa
